Terms of Use
Effective
These terms are the rules for using Computer Advisor. We've kept them in plain language. By using the site or the scanner, you agree to them.
1. Who we are
Computer Advisor (mycomputeradvisor.com), its related sites and its software, including the Windows scanner (ComputerAdvisorScan.exe), are owned and operated by Dizkaver LLC, a California-registered limited liability company (“we”, “us”).
2. Information, not professional repair
Computer Advisor gives general, informational advice about whether to fix, upgrade or replace a computer. It is not a professional repair service, an inspection or a guarantee that a part, fix or upgrade will work for your computer. Prices and cost ranges are estimates; a store's own page is final. Always confirm compatibility before you buy, and consider a qualified technician for anything you're not comfortable doing.
3. You're responsible for changes to your computer
You decide whether to follow any suggestion. You're responsible for changes you make to your computer, including settings, software, drivers and hardware. Back up important files before making changes. Opening a computer or laptop can void a warranty or cause damage, and some jobs (such as swollen batteries) are dangerous — use a professional for those.
4. The scanner
- The scanner is permission-based: it runs only when you start it and asks before it checks anything.
- It is read-only: it reads hardware and system information (described in our Privacy Notice), doesn't change your computer, installs nothing and doesn't read your files, user names or serial numbers.
- It's a new test version that isn't code-signed yet, so Windows may show a SmartScreen warning. Only download it from mycomputeradvisor.com.
- We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, revocable right to use it on computers you own or are allowed to check. Please don't resell, modify or redistribute it.
5. Free test phase and future paid services
The full report is listed at $9.99 for 30 days or $29.99 for 1 year. Payments are not switched on yet: no payment is taken on this site, and beta testers get the full report free in exchange for feedback. Features may change or end during the test. If we start charging, the price and any payment and refund terms will be posted on the site before anyone is charged, and you'll choose whether to buy.
6. Affiliate links
Some product links may be affiliate links, so we may earn a commission if you buy. It doesn't change your price or our recommendations. See our affiliate disclosure. Purchases happen on the store's site under the store's terms; we're not the seller.
7. Acceptable use
Please don't:
- break the law or anyone's rights using the site;
- try to hack, overload, scrape or disrupt the site, its servers or its APIs, or get around its limits;
- submit spam, false or abusive feedback, or other people's personal information;
- copy or republish our guides or software as your own, or use our name to suggest we endorse you.
We may block access or remove content that breaks these rules.
8. Our content
The site's text, guides, design and software belong to Dizkaver LLC or its licensors. You may read, print and share links for personal, non-commercial use. Feedback you send can be used by us to improve the service, without obligation to you.
9. No warranty
The site, advice and scanner are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't promise the service will be error-free or always available.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Dizkaver LLC and its members, employees and partners won't be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, lost profits or damage to hardware arising from your use of the site, advice or scanner. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim, or US $50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in California, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and important changes will be noted on the site. Using the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
